The 2016 Roshan Afghan Premier League (RAPL) champions, ShaheenAsmayee has been qualified for the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup 2017. The tournament will bring together eight football clubs of different Asian countries. All the matches will be kicked-off from February 18 to March 04, 2017 in Chittagong city, Bangladesh.
Sheikh Kamal is an international club football tournament hosted by Chittagong Abahani in association with the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). Eight teams — three local and five foreign clubs — split into two groups for the tournament and will compete in the group stage. Two top teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals and ultimately the two qualifiers will go head to head in the final.
Last year, the 2015 RAPL titleholders, De Spinghar Bazan competed in the Sheikh Kamal Cup 2016 and secured the 3rd place.
Shaheen Asmayee experienced their first appearance in an international football tournament and competed in the preliminary stage of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup 2017. Unluckily, the team was defeated by F.C Hosilot of Tajikistan with a 1-0 aggregate score.
Shaheen Asmayee will fly to Bangladesh today, Wednesday 15, 2017, to compete in the group “B” of Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup 2017.
The team expects to add five new players from the Under-24 RAPL football clubs to its squad since five of Shaheen’s players will accompany the Afghanistan’s national Beach Soccer team in the Asian Beach Soccer Championship of 2017. The decision was made by Shaheen Asmayee’s management board in consultation with the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF).
