2016 RAPL Review: Mawjhai Amu

8 Jan, 2017

Mawjhai Amu began the 2016 Roshan Afghan Premier League (RAPL) with motivation and confidence. This year’s draw put Amu in the group “B” to compete with Simorgh Alborz, Oqaban Hindukosh, and De Spinghar Bazan in the group stage.

Amu started the league with a 1-0 triumph over Oqaban in its first group-stage game. Though Amu conceded 4-1 its second group stage game to Simorgh Alborz, their 2-0 victory over De Spinghar Bazan, the 2015 titleholders, in the 3rd game was a remarkable achievement.

With six accumulated points, Mawjhai Amu advanced to the fifth season semi-finals where it competed against De Maiwand Atala.  Amu was defeated 3-2 by its strong opponent, Ataln, in its first-leg match of semi-final. To recover the deficit, Amu rattled a number of shots at Atalan’s bar in the semi-final second-leg match; however, the opportunities deterred, led Atalan to cruise 2-0 over Amu. With this loss, Amu still had the chance to claim the 2016 RAPL 3rd position.

The competition for 3rd place award put Mawjhai Amu against Simorgh Alborz. Amu started the game posing a competitive appearance to fashion an effort for impressing Simorgh at the beginning and win a trophy in the fifth season. Nonetheless, Simorgh kept their bar unbeaten and triumphed 1-0 over Amu.

Mawjhai Amu came fourth in the 2016 RAPL.

Last year, Amu persevered to advance to the semi-finals of the 2015 RAPL for the first time in their history and received the 2015 RAPL FIFA Fair- Play Award.
