2016 RAPL Review: Simorgh Alborz

28 Dec, 2016

Simorgh Alborz kicked-off the 2016 Roshan Afghan Premier League (RAPL) with a draw playing against De Spinghar Bazan, the 2015 RAPL champions. Later in another group stage game, Alborz triumphed 4-1 over Mawjhai Amu, but, conceded 2-1 its third group stage game to Oqaban Hindukosh. With four accumulated points and leading in aggregated goals, Simorgh escalated to the semi-finals.

Alborz performed well in the 2104 Nowroz tournament and could claim the cup. The northern region representatives' enthusiasm to win the fifth season title drove the team to have a solid performance in the 2016 semi-finals; however, unluckily Alborz did not overcome the challenge.

Simorgh Alborz understandably did not get many opportunities standing against one of the RAPL strongest teams, Shaheen Asmayee, in the RAPL 2016 semi-finals. Alborz failed to seal its bar of feisty strikes, thus, lost 8-1 its first-leg game of semi-final to Shaheen. The second-leg game was another chance to recover the loss if the team secured 8-0 thunderbolt triumph over Shaheen, a wish that was never materialized. Though Alborz defeated Shaheen 3-2 in the semi-final’s second-leg game, it did not help the team to advance to the final.

As both Simorgh Alborz and Mawjhai Amu were defeated by their opponents in the semi-finals, the teams competed for the third place of fifth season. Triumphing 1-0 over Mawjhai Amu, Simorgh Alborz stood as the third position holder of RAPL 2016.

Monirulhaq Nadim, Mustafa Rezaee, and Hekmatullah Moradi are the well-known players of Simorgh Alborz.
