2016 RAPL Review: Toofan Harirod

21 Jan, 2017

The representatives of western zone, Toofan Harirod hit the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) ground with preparation and ambition for the 2016Roshan Afghan Premier League (RAPL). The team took advantage of exercising on the newly artificial turf of football in Herat province, the country’s first ever stadium out of Kabul with artificial turf. Toofan’s players were supervised and trained by FIFA licensed RAPL Coach from Tajikistan in the newly established stadium.

Toofan Harirod stood as the RAPL 2012 champions with a perfect winning record. They were the first champions of RAPL main event. Recently, unluckily, the team did not have the chance to win any significant award except receiving the fifth season’s RAPL FIFA Fair-Play award.

The 2016 RAPL draw put Toofan Harirod in the group “A”, known as the death group of 2016 season.

Toofan Harirod triumphed 2-0 over Shaheen Asmayee, the 2015 RAPL runners-up, following their first thrilling group stage game. Later, Toofan conceded 1-0 the second group stage game to De Maiwand Atalan but crushed 2-0 De Abasin Sape in their third group stage game.

Taking the aggregated goal difference of Toofan and De Maiwand Atalan into consideration, Toofan did not prevail to secure a spot in the 2016 semi-finals despite of their triumphs and competitive appearance at the start.
