The RAPL Regional Tournament (Maidan-e-Sabz) in the western region to determine the 2016 Toofan Harirod 26-man squad took place from May 6th to May 9th in Herat province. Toofan Harirod represents western provinces of Herat, Ghor, and Badghis. The competing teams in this tournament were each Ansari, Sorkhposhan, Farah, Sarafan Herat, Badghis, and Ghor. 

This tournament hosted an exciting round of tryout matches judged by FIFA and AFC licensed RAPL Coach from Tajikistan, Boir Igamberdiev and high ranking AFF officials. Toofan’s excellent forward from the last season Rahmatullah Khair Khwa was awarded the Best Player of the Tournament award. 

Toofan were the 2012 RAPL champions with a perfect winning record and they claimed the 3rd position with a commanding 4-0 win over Oqaban Hindukosh in 2013. However, 2014 wasn’t a good year for Toofan, they couldn’t pass the group play, producing a lackluster one draw, one win, and one loss record.

We have the intra-squad matches ahead of us to determine the final 21 players for Toofan. However, it is not very difficult to assume that with 11 fresh faces in their squad; Toofan will have better chances of competing in the main tournament.

In the stadium, locals came with enthusiasm to support the teams and celebrate the tournament with full joy and love of football.
